Highlights
Your Journey

Ayubowan! Welcome to Sri Lanka. Your Ceylon Insider guide will greet you at the airport and transfer you to the charming coastal town of Negombo, just a short drive from the airport. Settle into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure — take a stroll along the golden beach, watch the colourful outrigger fishing boats return with the day's catch at the Dutch Canal, or simply relax by the pool after your journey.

Spend a relaxed morning in Negombo before heading northwest to the wilderness of Wilpattu. The drive takes you through lush coconut groves and sleepy rural villages, offering your first glimpse of Sri Lanka's countryside. Arrive at your safari lodge nestled on the edge of the national park and settle in for an evening surrounded by the sounds of the wild.

Rise early for a full day jeep safari at Wilpattu National Park — Sri Lanka's largest and one of its oldest wildlife reserves. Navigate a network of natural lakes known as "villus" surrounded by dense forest, keeping watch for elusive Sri Lankan leopards, sloth bears, spotted deer, wild elephants, and a spectacular array of birdlife including painted storks and crested serpent eagles. Your expert tracker knows every trail and waterhole where the wild reveals itself.

After a delicious breakfast at the lodge, journey east into the Cultural Triangle. En route, visit the magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple — a UNESCO World Heritage Site where five ancient rock chambers house over 150 Buddha statues and two thousand years of vibrant ceiling murals painted in rich ochres and blues. Continue to Sigiriya, where the legendary 5th-century rock fortress dominates the skyline, and check into your lakeside retreat.

Begin your morning with a climb up the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress — a 200-metre granite monolith crowned by the ruins of an ancient sky palace. Marvel at the famous Sigiriya Frescoes, the Mirror Wall, and the enormous Lion's Paw gateway before reaching the summit for breathtaking 360-degree panoramas across the jungle canopy. In the afternoon, proceed to the traditional village of Hiriwaduna to enjoy an authentic rural experience — ride an ox-cart along dusty paths, glide across the lake on a catamaran, and share a home-cooked meal with a local family. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

After a leisurely morning, proceed to Kandy — the last royal capital of Sri Lanka, set among misty green hills surrounding a picturesque lake. Upon arrival, enjoy a walk around Kandy city, exploring its bustling markets, colonial-era architecture, and lakeside promenade. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), which houses Sri Lanka's most venerated Buddhist treasure. In the evening, enjoy a captivating cultural event at the temple featuring traditional Kandyan drumming and dance performances.

Morning proceed to Kandy railway station to board one of the world's most spectacular train journeys — the famous hill country rail route from Kandy to Ella. For several hours, the train winds through emerald tea plantations, misty mountain passes, cascading waterfalls, and dramatic valleys. Watch the landscape transform from lush lowlands to cool highlands as you pass over iconic bridges and through tunnels carved into the rock. Arrive in Ella and spend the rest of the day at leisure, soaking in the valley's laid-back charm.

Enjoy a sunrise hike to Little Adam's Peak, a gentle trail that rewards you with sweeping panoramic views across the Ella Gap, patchwork tea plantations, and distant mountain ridges bathed in golden morning light. Thereafter, proceed to the Halpe Tea Factory to enjoy a hands-on tea processing experience — follow the journey of Ceylon tea from freshly plucked leaf through withering, rolling, and drying to a perfectly brewed cup. Spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring Ella's charming cafés and scenic surroundings.

After a leisurely morning in the highlands, begin the scenic drive south to Mirissa. The landscape gradually transforms from cool mountain tea estates and eucalyptus forests to warm coastal plains lined with coconut palms and paddy fields. Arrive at your beachfront resort on Mirissa's golden crescent bay — one of Sri Lanka's most beautiful stretches of coastline — and settle in for your beach stay.

Three blissful days at leisure on Mirissa's stunning southern coast. Watch for blue whales and dolphins on a morning boat excursion, try your hand at snorkelling in the crystal-clear waters, or simply relax under a palm tree with a good book. Explore the charming fishing harbour, visit the iconic coconut tree hill for panoramic ocean views, take a surf lesson on the gentle waves, or indulge in a relaxing spa treatment at the resort. Take a tuk-tuk to nearby Weligama Bay to watch the famous stilt fishermen at work, or explore the historic ramparts of Galle Fort just a short drive away. As the sun sets each evening, wander along the beach and savour fresh seafood at a beachside restaurant. The unhurried rhythm of the southern coast invites you to slow down and savour every moment.

After a leisurely morning farewell to the coast, proceed to Colombo — Sri Lanka's vibrant commercial capital. Upon reaching, enjoy a guided city tour that reveals the many layers of this evolving metropolis — from the grand colonial buildings of the Fort district and the bustling energy of Pettah Market to the serene Gangaramaya Temple and the oceanfront Galle Face Green promenade. Experience the city's thriving food scene and contemporary culture before your final evening on the island.

Check-out from the iconic Galle Face Hotel and proceed to Bandaranaike International Airport for your departure. Carry with you fourteen days of unforgettable memories — ancient kingdoms, misty railways, wild leopard encounters, and the gentle rhythm of Sri Lanka's golden southern shore. Until next time, Ayubowan!
